Why not treat the whole family on a Sunday by coming to our boot fair in the morning then spending an afternoon visiting a heritage site Upnor castle. The location is just a walk or very short car journey along the Upnor road, turning left at our boot fair exit and within a couple of minutes you are there.
Our map below shows Upnor castle (far right of the map) if travelling by car you will have to park in the Upnor castle car park and then proceed on foot passing through the charming village. There are some famous pubs in the village, well worth a visit, then continue your walk into the castle grounds.
Set in tranquil grounds adjoining a riverside village, this rare example of an Elizabethan artillery fort was begun in 1559 and redeveloped in 1599-1601, to protect warships moored at Chatham dockyards. Despite a brave attempt, it entirely failed to do so in 1667, when the Dutch sailed past it to capture or burn the English fleet at anchor.
